Young Women at Highest Risk for Rape, Sexual Assault

The Family Violence Prevention Fund recently cited a new report from the U.S. Department of Justice which states that victims between the ages of 16 to 24 are experiencing the highest rates of violence.

The report also found the following:

  • Nearly two in three female rape and assault victims (63%) were victimized by someone they knew
  • Intimate partners were responsible for nearly one in five rapes and sexual assaults (18%)
  • Only two in five incidents of rape or sexual assuault (41%) were reported to the police.

Out Against Abuse Updates

Dear OAA Supporters,

We here at OAA have been working hard and have some very exciting updates to share

  1. Nonprofit Status: OAA is excited to announce our new fiscal sponsor, Women’s Education Project. We will be able to start providing tax exemption for donations now so please don’t hesitate to give!
  2. Website Redesign: We are currently working on revamping the website to make it more readable and efficient for our users so stay tuned!
  3. Nonprofit Partner: OAA has been selected as a nonprofit partner for Catchafire, a web-based organization that connects nonprofits to skill based volunteers
  4. Computer Education Classes: OAA has formed a partnership with Women for Afghan Women to teach its members computer skills and how to use our website as a resource. We look forward to working with this amazing organization.
  5. Campus Education Seminars: OAA has launched a new program which works with university organizations to increase awareness of dating violence. If you would like OAA to host a workshop on your college campus, please email us at contactus@outagainstabuse.org
